The SouthEast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA) Nominations Committee comprised Judith Gray, NOAA/Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory; Tom Gustafson, Nova Southeastern University; Russell Lea, University of North Carolina; and Parker Lumpkin, South Carolina Sea Grant. The attached Sample Ballot for the SECOORA Board of Directors election is attached for your review as revised and approved by the SECOORA Steering Committee. This ballot, subject to final approvals or revisions at the SECOORA Membership meeting June 11-12, 2007, will be used as the Official SECOORA Board of Directors Ballot at the SECOORA Board of Directors elections to be held on June 12, 2007 as part of the SECOORA Membership meeting. The SECOORA Nominations Committee met four times, April 3rd, 5th, 12th, and June 4th via conference call to discuss the nominations and how best to create the strongest and most diverse ballot possible for SECOORA’s first Board of Directors. Additional discussions and communications have facilitated the development of the attached Sample Ballot, as approved by the SECOORA Steering Committee, for the election of the initial SECOORA Board of Directors (both the Institutional Member Seats and the At-Large Seats) at the SECOORA Organizational Meeting at the Sea Turtle Inn, Atlantic Beach, Florida on June 12, 2007. The Sample Ballot for the election of the initial SECOORA Board of Directors (both the Institutional Member Seats and the At-Large Seats) at the SECOORA Organizational Meeting at the Sea Turtle Inn, Atlantic Beach, Florida on June 12, 2007 is attached below and when approved by the SECOORA Terms of Reference members (as written or as amended by the SECOORA Terms of Reference members) on June 12, 2007, it shall become the Official SECOORA Board of Directors Ballot.

Voting Instructions for Institutional Member Seats: Please vote by circling or highlighting candidates in each of the three Institutional Member Seats Sector categories: Industry/Private Sector; Academic/Research/Education Sector; and, Agency/Non-Profit/Other Sectors), as described below. If you cast votes for more than five (5) names in either the Industry/Private Sector category, the Academic/Research/Education Sector category or the Public Agency/Non-Profit/Other Sector category, your votes in that Sector category will be disqualified. All ballots will be reviewed and approved by the SECOORA Nominations Committee and their determination as to the votes cast by that ballot is final for purposes of such SECOORA election decisions.
Five Institutional Member Seats - Academic/Research/Education Sector: The Board members for these five Institutional Member Seats are to be elected based upon the Nominees in the Academic/Research/Education Sector category who receive the highest number of votes cast for Nominees in this category at the SECOORA Organizational meeting on June 12, 2007. In the event a tie vote makes it impossible to make such a determination, those Nominees in this Academic/ Research/ Education Sector category who received the tie vote and made such determination impossible to calculate, will be identified by the SECOORA Nominations Committee and a run-off election between those Nominees will thereafter occur during the SECOORA Organizational meeting on June 12, 2007.
